Post Lasik, Watery Dry Eyes - Success Story from TheraLife

Post LASIK, Watery Dry Eyes - Success Story from TheraLife

This is my personal story.  I hope you find it useful.

"I am a chronic dry-eye sufferer who had LASIK surgery. I have the "Watery" type of Dry Eye where tears flow down my cheek constantly.

As I approached 40 I began to suffer from watering eyes. As a contact lens wearer since the age of 14, I could no longer tolerate the contact lenses and with the watery eyes, I couldn't see or function normally through the day.

I investigated having Lasik surgery. Due to the severity of my prescription (11.5 in my left eye and 11.75 in my right eye) along with large pupil dilation and a thin cornea, I was turned down by most of the prominent eye surgeons in my area. Not willing to go back to glasses, I was finally able to find a surgeon who gave me the option of "E-Lasik" surgery. (Remember, this was over 10 years ago, and Lasik surgery techniques have come a long way). It was much more complicated than normal lasik and the risk of even drier eyes was a possibility.

The surgery was extremely successful. I now have 20/50 vision, but it is such that I can function without glasses for the most part. Now for the dry eyes: I used the drops recommended by the surgeon, but still had watery eyes, extreme glare at night (I was told this would happen due to my pupil dilation) and sometimes pain in my eyes in the morning upon waking.

I was certain that I could find a supplement that would help. I tried many drops and supplements from health food stores but nothing seemed to help. I searched until I found Theralife Eye on the internet. It has improved my night vision, my watery eyes and lessened the pain that I experienced in the morning. I started with 8 capsules per day and now maintain on 4 per day. I recently have added the Fish oil (1-2 per day) and have had even more relief.

I would recommend Theralife Eye products as a natural, safe way to manage chronic dry eye. I'm so glad that I found Theralife.

Survival Tips for Sjogren's Syndrome-TheraLife

Survival Tips for Sjogrern's Syndrome

Sjogren's syndrome is one of the most prevalent autoimmune disorders. some 4-6 million people have this disorder, mostly women, but also men. Affects people of all ages and races. Here are some helpful tips that we hope you find useful.

Dry Eye Survival Tips

  • Use warm compress and eyelid cleansers or baby shampoo on a warm washcloth to reduce blepharitis, a common condition in Sjögren’s that causes chronic inflammation of the eyelids and eyelid margins. Do this often to reduce discomfort
  • You may need a prescription antibiotic or steroid drops to reduce inflammation for blepharitis..
  • Reduce light sensitivity- wearing sunglasses- draw window shades, avoid fluorescence lights.
  • Avoid applying anything to the eyelids that can irritate your dry eye; products placed on the eyelid will get into the tear film.
  • Avoid over use of eye drops – makes your eyes drier over time. Use TheraLife Eye instead – see below
  • For night time dry eyes, take 4 capsules of TheraLife Autoimmune Dry Eye right before bedtime. No blurry vision and mess compare to eye gels.
  • Try moisture chamber goggles, especially at night to prevent moisture evaporation and offer protection from air currents.
  • Keep the upper and lower eyelids free of facial creams at bedtime; they can enter the eye and cause irritation.
  • For allergies use Claritin “Loratadine”- a mast cell stabilizer anti-histamine which is gentler than “Diphenhydramine HCl” (Benedryl or Sudafed). It does not make your eyes as dry. Do not use Claritin D

Dry Mouth Survival Tips - Reduce inflammation

  • Eat soft, moist foods - no pasta, bread or sugar
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals to stimulate saliva flow.
  • Avoid salty, acidic or spicy foods and carbonated drinks that may be painful on your dry mouth or interfere with digestion.
  • Help prevent dental decay by using oral products containing the sweetner xylitol.
  • For dry mouth, increase your intake of daily liquid.
  • Avoid mouthwashes and rinses that contain alcohol or witch hazel. These ingredients can aggravate oral dryness and burning.
  • Chew sugar-free gum or suck on hard diabetic or sugar-free candies to help increase saliva.
  • Apply vitamin E oil or moisturizing gels to dry or sore parts of the mouth or tongue for long-lasting relief. Use the liquid oil or punch holes in vitamin capsules.

 TheraLife Success Story
Sjogrens Dry Eye/Dry Mouth:
I was diagnosed with sjogrens syndrome 4 years ago. I tried everything my doctor suggested. Nothing really worked for me. Then a co-worker reccomended Theralife. I called and they were so helpful in getting me started and are very knowledgable too. After about 2 months, my eyes had improved so much. My dry mouth has improved as well. I work in a casino where the air is VERY VERY dry and without Theralife, I don't know what i would do. Thank you for creating such a wonderful product.

Anxiety and Depression Linked to Dry Eye Syndrome

Anxiety and Depression Linked to Dry Eye Syndrome

Anxiety can lead to a wide range of clinical symptoms, of which dry eye is one.

This blog is to encourage eye doctors to be aware that Dry Eye Disease has significant impact on people's quality of life.

Very often, we see people who has Chronic Dry Eye Syndrome who also has signs of depression and often on anti-depressants.  Interviewing these patients often reveal that the constant pain, discomfort of dry eye symptoms is leading them to depression.

On the other hand, it has been well documented that patients who have a high level of anxiety and depression can lead to dry eyes due to bodily fluids being diverted away from the eyes to other organs.
Often this correlation between Dry Eye Syndrome causing depression and anxiety is being ignored, and yet it is an important factor in being able to treat Dry Eye Syndrome successfully.

Here is a new clinical study that documented the correlation between people with Dry Eye Syndrome developing depression and anxiety- Published in “Cornea”  February 2012. at this link:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21174591

Wen, et al conclude:  "DES is frequent in patients with depressive and anxiety disorders, especially patients who are older, have longer duration of psychiatric disorder, and use an SSRI. Psychiatric disorders and use of antidepressants should be considered in the differential diagnosis of DES
This study aimed to determine whether patients with dry eye syndrome [DES] have more symptoms of anxiety and depression than controls without DES".

This study also concluded that – Anxiety and depression are correlated with Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) . DES is an important public health problem that merits increased attention and research.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

1. Simple Daily Exercise-

Suggest to the patient to use short meditation measure to calm down- e.g. sitting in a quiet room with low light, feet planted on the ground, close eyes and start counting from one.  Keep all distracting thoughts out of mind, focus only on counting.  If interfering thoughts come into play, start counting from one again.  Practice this every day until you can count numbers up to 10 minutes.  The result is – after 10 minutes, the patient feels refreshed, less anxious.

2. Practice yoga – with or without an instructor.

3. Meditation- simply sit in a comfortable chair, place your feet on the ground, your hand in your lap, close your eyes and count your breath.  Keep all thoughts out of your mind.  Be present, be focused and be quiet.  Count your breath to 12 without any thoughts coming to your mind.  You can practice this anywhere.
