Is there a cure for watery dry eyes?

Is There A Cure for Watery Eyes?

Are your constantly watering eyes making you miserable?  Eyes burning, red, irritated.  Nothing you tried has worked so far, drops only make it worse.

Sounds familiar?

There is no cure for watery eyes caused by dry eyes, but TheraLife can stop watery eyes and get your life back on track again.  All this means is you have to keep up with taking Theralife Eye capsules to keep watery eyes at bay.

Why Dry Eyes Result In Watery Eyes?

Does this sound familiar?  I have tears running down my check but my doctor told me I have dry eyes.

The answer is not obvious.  One of the most common cause of watery eyes is dry eyes.

Watery eyes (epiphora),  or wet eyes, is a condition in which there is an overflow of tears streaming down to the face. This often happens when one goes outdoors, being exposed to wind, cold, bright sun light. Sometimes even when one is indoors.  Light sensitivity is one of the key symptoms indicating it is due to dry eyes.

Epiphora can develop at any age. It is more common in babies aged under 12 months, and adults over the age of 60 years old.  This condition can have symptoms in just one eye or both eyes.

Depending on the severity of symptoms, watering eye can sometimes make driving difficult and dangerous.

Common Causes of Epiphora- Tearing Eyes include:

1. Dry Eye Syndrome- more than 50%

2. Allergies-  test for allergies for try allergy medications

3. Blocked tear ducts- tear cannot drain

4. Blepharitis or conjunctivitis – eye infections

5. Trichiasis - inward-growing eyelashes

6.Ectropion - this is when the lower eyelid turns outwards

Why Does Dry Eyes Cause Tear Over Production?

Dry eyes lead to inflammation, which shuts down the tear secretion glands.  Your brain started to cry in an attempt to provide moisture. This type of crying tear is of poor quality - very thin, and keeps on washing away the natural lubricants your eyes produce.  Your eyes gets even drier.  This is not different than frequent use of eye drops.

Tear production tends to decrease with age, therefore, dry eyes are more common in older adults.

In addition to excessive tearing, symptoms of dry eye syndrome may include blurred vision, itchy eyes, or burning eyes.  All these symptoms are consistent with chronic dry eye syndrome.

How to stop tear over production

The proper way to relief watery dry eyes is to:
  1. Balance tear production – restore normal cell functions to tear secretion glands - lacrimal and meibomian glands
  2. Train your brain to stop crying – to stop tear over production.
TheraLife Eye can help!
TheraLife Eye restores both lacrimal and meibomian gland functions in order to establish balanced, sustainable tear for lasting relief.  Learn more
Once we achieve dry eye relief, we then have to train the brain not to cry.  Therefore, watery dry eyes takes longer to treat!

Crusty Red Eyes? Could it be Blepharitis?

Crusty Red Eyes?  Could it be Blepharitis?

This story sounds familiar? Your have been diagnosed with dry eyes, you use eye drops, warm compress, cleaning eye lids with baby shampoo, and your eyes are still red, dry, and irritable. What else could be going on?
Red dry eyes are often caused by:

Chronic Dry Eye Syndrome:

Red eyes is a typical chronic dry eye syndrome, in addition to feeling dry, tired, irritated, light sensitive, sandy gritty, and sometimes watery.

Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is caused by viral or bacterial infection. Bacterial conjunctivitis can be treated with antibiotic eye drops. Viral infections typically runs through a 14 day cycle and stop. For ocular herpes, please consult your physician. Acyclovir is often the treatment of choice for herpes.

Blepharitis:

Blepharitis is a recurring condition caused by inflammation of the eye lids. Meibomian tear glands (produce tear thickness) is often involved. Common causes include rosacea, dandruff, sometimes allergies, bacterial growth on the eye lids. Typical recommendation is to use warm compress daily, clean eye lids with baby shampoo followed by gentle massage of both upper and lower eye lids. Unfortunately, blepharitis tend to recur. Eye lid hygiene is key.

Symptoms of blepharitis are very similar to red dry eyes - blurry vision, watery, red, tired, light sensitivity and often wake up with a crusting of eyelashes.

How can TheraLife Eye Help?
TheraLife Eye is effective in reducing inflammation and stimulates tear flow for chronic dry eye relief. Often people with chronic dry eyes also have blepharitis. Treating chronic dry eyes reduces the inflammation, and also helps to reduce the recurrence of blepharitis. It is highly recommended that those who have blepharitis stay on TheraLife Eye long term to increase the rate of success.

Chalazion and Styes - What is the difference?

treating a chalazion

Chalazion  Versus Stye:  What is the Difference

A chalazion and stye are different.  It is important to know the difference in symptoms because the treatments for each differ slightly and the causes are different.  They both can be a result of chronic dry eyes.

Chalazion

When an oil gland becomes blocked, a small bump will appear on the eyelid.  This bump is called a chalazion .  A chalazion can appear on either the upper or lower eyelid since oil glands are all along the eyelid.  A chalazion will usually disappear in a month without any formal treatment.  However, many people do get recurring chalazion because they have chronic dry eyes, and their meibomian oil glands become blocked as a result.

Therefore, the quickest route to healing involved keeping the lids and lashes clean, unblocking the clogged oil glands with a hot compress, and taking a supplement that will relief dry eyes and help healing.

Symptoms of a Chalazion

People who suffer from meibomian gland dysfunction tend to have a recurrence of chalazions.  However, anyone can develop a chalazion at any time due to a clogged pore.  Since a chalazion and stye are both bumps located on the eyelid, there is often confusion over which one is which.  It is important to know which one is present because Chalazion is non- infectious where a stye is infectious, often bacterial infection.

Some common symptoms of a chalazion include:
  • ·         Tender spot on the eyelid
  • ·         Hard lump on the eyelid
  • ·         Increased tearing of the eyes
  • ·         Blurry or blocked vision
  • ·         Light sensitivity

Chalazion Prevention

Although not always possible to prevent a chalazion, there are some steps, if taken, that can help future occurrences.  For example, keeping the eyelid area clean, applying a warm compress, and keeping the glands open are some ways to prevent a future chalazion.

Stye

When an oil gland becomes blocked due to an infection in the eye, a stye appears.  A stye is a swollen, pus-filled knot that appears on the upper or lower eyelid.  Staphylococcus aureus is the bacteria that causes a stye.  A stye is extremely painful.  A stye and a chalazion are different because a stye is caused from a bacterial infection, is painful, and is often larger than a chalazion.

Symptoms of a Stye

Some common symptoms of a stye include:
  • ·         Painful knot that appears on the eye
  • ·         Puss due to infection
  • ·         Crustiness in or around the eye
  • ·         Feeling of scratchiness in the eye

Treatment Options for Stye

First line of treatment for stye is anti-biotics. Typically an antibiotic ointment applied to the eye lids.

To prevent recurrence of a stye,  TheraLife has created a combination of essential cleansers, supplements, and compresses to speed up and prevent future occurrences.

TheraLife Eye Enhanced can be used to reduce inflammation and restore the ability of the glands located in the eye to produce vital lubricants that keep the eye healthy and moist.  Applying a hot compress to the affected eyelid several times a day reduces swelling and softens any oils that may be blocked in the gland.  Keeping the eyelids clean is vital and TheraLife has included an eyelid cleanser to keep the eyelids clean and prevent infection.  Finally, gentle massage of the lump can help drainage.  Be sure to sanitize the hands before touching the eyes.

For treatment of a stye, TheraLife suggests using TheraLife Eye Enhanced.  Clean the eyelids with the eyelid cleanser, apply a warm compress for a 10 minutes twice a day, and do not squeeze the stye.  Even though the eye is painful, resist the urge to rub the eye.  If contacts are worn, replace them with glasses until the stye disappears.  Sometime, a stye will need antibiotics prescribed by a doctor in order to completely eliminate the bacteria from the body.  Consult a doctor if the stye does not clear up in two days.

Recurring Chalazions and Styes

Meibomian gland dysfunction  can cause both chalazions and styes to keep cropping up.  The inflammation from both conditions can lead to dry eyes.  Dry eyes are prone to infection.  TheraLife Eye Enhanced helps the body restore natural tear secretion, and in turn, the body is able to produce its own tears.  Natural tears are the best defense against future problems.  TheraLife provides an All-in-One Eye Enhanced Starter Kit which includes everything needed to keep the eyes healthy and clean.

The key to treating and preventing chalazions and styes are maintaining overall eye cleanliness and health.  TheraLife has a complete line of eye kits to help patients heal and keep the eyes healthy.

Post Lasik, Watery Dry Eyes - Success Story from TheraLife

Post LASIK, Watery Dry Eyes - Success Story from TheraLife

This is my personal story.  I hope you find it useful.

"I am a chronic dry-eye sufferer who had LASIK surgery. I have the "Watery" type of Dry Eye where tears flow down my cheek constantly.

As I approached 40 I began to suffer from watering eyes. As a contact lens wearer since the age of 14, I could no longer tolerate the contact lenses and with the watery eyes, I couldn't see or function normally through the day.

I investigated having Lasik surgery. Due to the severity of my prescription (11.5 in my left eye and 11.75 in my right eye) along with large pupil dilation and a thin cornea, I was turned down by most of the prominent eye surgeons in my area. Not willing to go back to glasses, I was finally able to find a surgeon who gave me the option of "E-Lasik" surgery. (Remember, this was over 10 years ago, and Lasik surgery techniques have come a long way). It was much more complicated than normal lasik and the risk of even drier eyes was a possibility.

The surgery was extremely successful. I now have 20/50 vision, but it is such that I can function without glasses for the most part. Now for the dry eyes: I used the drops recommended by the surgeon, but still had watery eyes, extreme glare at night (I was told this would happen due to my pupil dilation) and sometimes pain in my eyes in the morning upon waking.

I was certain that I could find a supplement that would help. I tried many drops and supplements from health food stores but nothing seemed to help. I searched until I found Theralife Eye on the internet. It has improved my night vision, my watery eyes and lessened the pain that I experienced in the morning. I started with 8 capsules per day and now maintain on 4 per day. I recently have added the Fish oil (1-2 per day) and have had even more relief.

I would recommend Theralife Eye products as a natural, safe way to manage chronic dry eye. I'm so glad that I found Theralife.

Survival Tips for Sjogren's Syndrome-TheraLife

Survival Tips for Sjogrern's Syndrome

Sjogren's syndrome is one of the most prevalent autoimmune disorders. some 4-6 million people have this disorder, mostly women, but also men. Affects people of all ages and races. Here are some helpful tips that we hope you find useful.

Dry Eye Survival Tips

  • Use warm compress and eyelid cleansers or baby shampoo on a warm washcloth to reduce blepharitis, a common condition in Sjögren’s that causes chronic inflammation of the eyelids and eyelid margins. Do this often to reduce discomfort
  • You may need a prescription antibiotic or steroid drops to reduce inflammation for blepharitis..
  • Reduce light sensitivity- wearing sunglasses- draw window shades, avoid fluorescence lights.
  • Avoid applying anything to the eyelids that can irritate your dry eye; products placed on the eyelid will get into the tear film.
  • Avoid over use of eye drops – makes your eyes drier over time. Use TheraLife Eye instead – see below
  • For night time dry eyes, take 4 capsules of TheraLife Autoimmune Dry Eye right before bedtime. No blurry vision and mess compare to eye gels.
  • Try moisture chamber goggles, especially at night to prevent moisture evaporation and offer protection from air currents.
  • Keep the upper and lower eyelids free of facial creams at bedtime; they can enter the eye and cause irritation.
  • For allergies use Claritin “Loratadine”- a mast cell stabilizer anti-histamine which is gentler than “Diphenhydramine HCl” (Benedryl or Sudafed). It does not make your eyes as dry. Do not use Claritin D

Dry Mouth Survival Tips - Reduce inflammation

  • Eat soft, moist foods - no pasta, bread or sugar
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals to stimulate saliva flow.
  • Avoid salty, acidic or spicy foods and carbonated drinks that may be painful on your dry mouth or interfere with digestion.
  • Help prevent dental decay by using oral products containing the sweetner xylitol.
  • For dry mouth, increase your intake of daily liquid.
  • Avoid mouthwashes and rinses that contain alcohol or witch hazel. These ingredients can aggravate oral dryness and burning.
  • Chew sugar-free gum or suck on hard diabetic or sugar-free candies to help increase saliva.
  • Apply vitamin E oil or moisturizing gels to dry or sore parts of the mouth or tongue for long-lasting relief. Use the liquid oil or punch holes in vitamin capsules.

Anxiety and Depression Linked to Dry Eye Syndrome

Anxiety and Depression Linked to Dry Eye Syndrome

Anxiety can lead to a wide range of clinical symptoms, of which dry eye is one.

This blog is to encourage eye doctors to be aware that Dry Eye Disease has significant impact on people's quality of life.

Very often, we see people who has Chronic Dry Eye Syndrome who also has signs of depression and often on anti-depressants.  Interviewing these patients often reveal that the constant pain, discomfort of dry eye symptoms is leading them to depression.

On the other hand, it has been well documented that patients who have a high level of anxiety and depression can lead to dry eyes due to bodily fluids being diverted away from the eyes to other organs.
Often this correlation between Dry Eye Syndrome causing depression and anxiety is being ignored, and yet it is an important factor in being able to treat Dry Eye Syndrome successfully.

Here is a new clinical study that documented the correlation between people with Dry Eye Syndrome developing depression and anxiety- Published in “Cornea”  February 2012. at this link:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21174591

Wen, et al conclude:  "DES is frequent in patients with depressive and anxiety disorders, especially patients who are older, have longer duration of psychiatric disorder, and use an SSRI. Psychiatric disorders and use of antidepressants should be considered in the differential diagnosis of DES
This study aimed to determine whether patients with dry eye syndrome [DES] have more symptoms of anxiety and depression than controls without DES".

This study also concluded that – Anxiety and depression are correlated with Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) . DES is an important public health problem that merits increased attention and research.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

1. Simple Daily Exercise-

Suggest to the patient to use short meditation measure to calm down- e.g. sitting in a quiet room with low light, feet planted on the ground, close eyes and start counting from one.  Keep all distracting thoughts out of mind, focus only on counting.  If interfering thoughts come into play, start counting from one again.  Practice this every day until you can count numbers up to 10 minutes.  The result is – after 10 minutes, the patient feels refreshed, less anxious.

2. Practice yoga – with or without an instructor.

3. Meditation- simply sit in a comfortable chair, place your feet on the ground, your hand in your lap, close your eyes and count your breath.  Keep all thoughts out of your mind.  Be present, be focused and be quiet.  Count your breath to 12 without any thoughts coming to your mind.  You can practice this anywhere.

HOW CAN THERALIFE HELP?

A.   TheraLife Eye is formulated to increase micro-circulation and deliver more blood and nutrients to the eye – allowing the tear secretion glands to attain normal cell functions intracellularly.  Depression and anxiety can be adverted once dry eye syndrome is under control.
